What is 4-PRO-MET?
4-PRO-MET belongs to the tryptamine class of compounds and is a structural analog of 4-HO-MET. Chemically, it is a prodrug: the propyloxy group at position 4 of the indole ring is converted into a hydroxy group in the body, resulting in the formation of 4-HO-MET.
One point is particularly relevant for laboratory use: 4-PRO-MET is chemically more stable than 4-HO-MET. The propyloxy group protects the molecule from oxidation, which means a longer shelf life and more reproducible results—the reason why it is often preferred over its direct analog in research settings.
